This area of the site will be used to let you know about the efforts
being made by the Management Trustees to preserve Northwood House
and grounds, with information about the work to repair the buildings
and the negotiations with other interested bodies. Most of the structural
problems which the Trustees now have to deal with have come about
through the years of neglect the House has suffered. We are working
hard to remedy them, but it all costs money.
LATEST REFURBISHMENTS:
Our team of very willing volunteers have been doing sterling work
at the House recently. See
here and here. and
here. Click here
for a summary of what's been done between taking over on 1 October
2010 and our Open Day on 22 May 2011.
Many areas of the House are simply scruffy and showing signs of
neglect and decay, but many, not all of which are visible to the
public, are in urgent need of repair. Most of it is structurally
sound, but a 'condition survey' carried out by English Heritage
in 2008 focused on a number of areas where urgent action is needed
to ensure the building's structural integrity for the future. More

ROOF REPAIRS: one of the first jobs the Trustees had to deal with when they took over management of the House was urgent
work on the roof following vandal damage
to the lead (left). Water poured in and buckets and
bins had to be brought into play to catch it. However, the Trustees were able to raise enough money
from the Robert Thompson ‘pop-up’
restaurant and the Cowes Week parking to mend the
relevant areas of the roof and make plans to deal with other problems
including blocked guttering and a leak in the ‘Rotunda’
dome.
