Q So how does it all work?
A. The first step is to call the number for the PayByPhone service (0844 844 9996) which is advertised on the signage. The first time you call you will need to register a credit or debit card and a vehicle reg number. The automated service guides you on what to do – you enter the card details through the keypad and you can talk to a customer service operative to give them your vehicle registration number (VRN) details. You only need to register once and you can pay for your first parking session when you call to register.

Q. And then after I’ve registered how do I pay?
A. Once you are registered, when you call the next time, the system recognises you from your mobile number. You are then prompted by the automated system to enter the location number of the car park shown on the signs and to enter how long you wish to park for. You will also need to enter the 3 digit number on the back of your card. The system then confirms back to you the details of your parking session and that is it – no need to go anywhere near a pay and display machine.

Q Can I pay by text?
A. Yes indeed – you simply text INFO to 65565 and you’ll get a text back giving instruction on the format of the text to send. It is the quickest and simplest way to pay if you are a regular user.

Q What does it cost to use the service?
A. A small service charge of 10p or 20p dependent on the parking tariff you are paying, will be added to the parking charge and billed either to your credit card or bank account.

Q Why should I bother using the system?
A. You don’t need to carry change anymore for the machines. Better still you can get reminder texts to tell you your time is running out and you can simply text back the additional time you require. You will not need to be anywhere near the car park and it could save you a fortune in fines.

Q: Where are the location numbers shown?
A: On all Pay and Display machines, and on parking signage in each car park.

Q. How does the attendant know I’ve paid?
A. They carry hand held devices which display the number plates of all those vehicles which have paid on the system.

Q. Can I get a receipt?
A. Yes. You can either go to your on line account at www.paybyphone.co.uk and print one off from there or ask to receive email receipts when you register.
