The Wight Proms is back, and even bigger and better than last year!
Since the huge success of the inaugural ‘Wight Proms’ in 2018, festival organisers have been working hard to bring yet another all-star line-up to the Isle of Wight, when the festival returns in August later this year:
- ALAN DAVIES & SHAPPI KHORSANDI – Comedy Legends, supported by ESTHER MANITO
- RUTHIE HENSHALL – Leading Lady of West End & Broadway
- LESLEY GARRETT – Britain’s Most Cherished Soprano
They will also be joined by West End stars (Saturday), the Wight Proms Concert Orchestra (Sunday) and Island Support Acts including Company B-UK, Theatretrain, The Rockafellas and Winners of the IOW Music, Dance & Drama Festival.
The 4-day festival has quickly established itself as one of the ‘must-do’ events on the Island, which returns on 29th August to 1st September 2019, in the grounds of the Grade II* listed Georgian Northwood House, in Cowes.
Following the popular format of last year’s festival, the Wight Proms are proud to announce ‘A Wight Laugh’ on the Friday night starring comedy legends Alan Davies and Shappi Khorsandi, ‘Wight at the Musicals’ on the Saturday night, starring the magnificent West End & Broadway star Ruthie Henshall, and ‘Last Wight of the Proms’ on the Sunday, starring the incredible Lesley Garrett CBE alongside the Wight Proms Concert Orchestra.
Festival Founder Mike Christie commented “Last year’s headliners received such high plaudits so we knew we had set the bar very high. We’ve been working hard to enhance the offering from last year and are delighted to announce these internationally-renowned acts; together with another great line-up of local talent, including Company B-UK, The Rockafellas, Theatretrain and the winners from the IOW Music, Dance & Drama Festival.”
In an effort to offer even more to the Island community, organisers have added two new events to this year’s Wight Proms: ‘Wight at the Movies’ and ‘Peter & the Wolf’. The outdoor cinema will be held on the Thursday, screening two classics: The Greatest Showman and Dirty Dancing, which have already generated huge interest on social media, before tickets are even on sale. Peter & the Wolf is on the Saturday afternoon and is a perennial favourite by Sergei Prokofiev, which helps children to enjoy the experience of going to a concert by making it fun and entertaining. Christie added, “We had a fantastic few days last year, with a packed schedule, however it was always the aim to offer the community as much variety as possible over the four days, and to build and develop the festival each year. We will also have a bigger and better choice of food stalls this year from across the Island.”
The Isle of Wight has a wealth of musical talent, amazing food, a strong sense of community and is one of the few places in the UK where you can still see the native Red Squirrel; the Wight Proms festival celebrates all of this. Wight Proms founder, Mike Christie commented “There is nothing on the island like our festival, and we’re so proud to be bringing it back in its second year and are anticipating a full sell-out like last year.”
